Frequently asked questions.
Do you create custom artwork?
Yes, I do!
Some of the highlights of my career are the custom pieces I’ve created.
I am always open to creating custom work as long as your request falls within my comfort level and my style. I love to stretch a bit creatively, if the project resonates and feels like a good fit.
The most important thing is that you already like my style of creating.
I’ve created many site specific custom art pieces. See a small slice of the custom work I’ve created HERE and HERE
The glass pieces often involve wood or steel as the support for larger glass panels. Sometimes the custom work is in a style that is repeatable, such as my glass and steel flower bouquets or orca sculptures.
A client may want one in a specific colour and with certain customized elements.
I also create wedding/graduation/birthday gifts that have specific personal elements added. Bowls, platters, dishes and wood framed windows are popular choices for gifts.
My sculptures have been used as memorials for loved ones in indoor and outdoor settings. My tabletop glass flower bouquets have been given at funerals as a lasting floral arrangement.
Unusual and memorable.
I’ve created many mixed media paintings for clients that include childhood memories or favourite animals in the imagery, they tell me these are their favourite things and bring a sense of comfort, joy and play to their lives.
Details for Custom Work
Creating custom pieces usually involves an in person meeting, sometimes in person and several emails. Often the whole process is done via email, with imagery and ideas flowing back and forth until we have a clear plan and approach.
We have 30 minutes of complimentary design talk and then I charge for my time to create the design. If we go forward with the project, that time is included in the price. If you choose not to move forward that time is charged to you.
Once I have created a design and we agree on the approach I require a 50% non refundable deposit to honour our commitment to the project. (or a mutually agreed upon amount)
We'll have as much clarity as possible between us before I begin.
At this point I work on my own until the project is finished.
It’s challenging (almost impossible) to make changes after the fact with glass, steel and wood. Although it is possible, any changes after the piece is complete will be reflected in the final price. To that end, on a larger project I’ll often draw a “cartoon”. This is a smaller drawing that has the general shapes and colours we’re going for, without all the details a larger piece will have.
For a painting, small changes are possible after you’ve seen the final piece. I’m open to making 2 adjustments.
Pricing is in Canadian dollars, so it’s often a great deal especially for USA collectors.
Payment is send via a secure online credit card system, Stripe, Square or Paypal, or e-transfer.

Shipping
In my shops shipping is currently a flat rate of $25 CAD, which is a super great deal!
For custom orders and larger pieces shipping charges are given at the time for the specific pieces and are paid by the collector at the time of shipping.
As you can imagine it’s not possible to estimate because packing larger items, especially glass is not “one size fits all”.
Pricing
I have a large range as a creator, from tiny to super sized and my prices reflect that.
Prices for glass art range from as low as $5.00 to several thousand.
Examples:
Glass stars as low as $10 and $20 and soul gems
Original fused glass platter start at $25 for 3”x3” up to $2000 for a large 21” dia. bowl.
Glass and steel sculptures range from $750 to several thousand.
Paintings range in price from $60 for a 4”x4”” to $3000 to $4000 for 48”x48”.t all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
Can we visit your studio?
Absolutely! I love welcoming visitors to my studio.
The famous Gabriola Studio Tour in the fall on Canadian Thanksgiving weekend is a great time to see many artists in their studios, including me.
At other times my studio is open by appointment.
As you would imagine, my studio is a fully functioning art studio, so it’s often in a state of creative chaos.
There is ALWAYS new art to see in my studio, however it’s not always displayed the way you would see it during show times.
Please send me a message at tammy@tammyhudgeon.com if you wish to visit!
If I am available I would love to SEE you!
Do you Teach?
Two or more pieces of glass will stick (or "fuse") to each other. When the right kind of glass is heated and then cooled properly, the resulting fused glass piece will be solid and unbroken.
Yes I do, however it might surprise you that I don’t teach about glass. For that I recommend Brenda Mcintyre at Cheeky Monkey Glassworks in Nanaimo. She is a talented glass artist and a wonderful teacher.
I do teach creativity and art with mixed media using art journals and painting.
My courses are called Creative Sovereignty Visual Journaling and Paint Your Wild Spirit.
SEE more about them here and try out a free demo video for each.
Creative Sovereignty is an online self study course and Paint Your Wild Spirit is partly self study online and partly guided by me in live zoom coaching calls.
What is fused glass?
Definition: glass fusing is a process of using heat to melt and join together pieces of glass.
By applying heat to glass it will soften. And if you apply more heat, the glass will become more fluid and will flow together.
Two or more pieces of glass will stick (or "fuse") to each other. When the right kind of glass is heated and then cooled properly, the resulting fused glass piece will be solid and unbroken.
What is mixed media?
Mixed media, in visual art, refers to an artwork in the making of which more than one medium has been employed. There is an important distinction between "mixed-media" artworks and "multimedia art". Mixed media tends to refer to a work of visual art that combines various traditionally distinct visual art media.
In my studio this would mean, in my paintings I use acrylic paint, charcoal, graphite, oil sticks, oil paint, oil pastels, chalk, pencil crayon, collage and sometimes even glass together in one piece of art, either on wood panel or canvas.
