I Will Miss YOU, Gabriola Artworks.

One of the best experiences of my artistic life has been an ongoing decade + connection with the fabulous island gallery, Gabriola Artworks.

I have so much gratitude for Kathy Ramsey, owner and curator of this island icon. For me, Gabriola Artworks has been the community hall of this little rock.

It has also been the sight of many of my artistic successes. I will share some pix in the coming weeks of my 11 years of art exhibitions with Kathy and Artworks.

Bien Viaje,  Kathy! MUCH  gratitude.

Gabriola Artworks Show 2013

This has been an amazing and FULL summer ! Wowza!!

I am excited to show you a few pix of my last show...this was the show I shared with the amazing artists Grant Leier and Sheila Norgate....
I am thrilled and honoured to be sharing the stage with these two artists as they have both been mentors and inspirations for me from early on in my art journey.
Kathy Ramsey, owner of Gabriola Artworks really outdid herself in setting up this show, the gallery looks splendid! ( show runs until September 5)
I will share pix of Sheila and Grant's work in a later post....this one is mainly showing you some of my very newest art creations!
I am very grateful for the wonderful art supporters in this world. Thank YOU!

This room divider screen is the 4th one in this size that I have created over the last 8 years....I love creating in this scale, lots of room to play with colour and design....it took some time, and a few panels had to be remade....it is all fused glass with Douglas fir wood frame, a coastal B.C. wood, and hand forged steel hardware......on display at Gabriola Artworks.....I must say I am very pleased with the finished piece!!! very very pleased.....

Pink Paint and Erotica Art

sooooo, the Annual Erotica Show has opened and is showing

@ Gabriola Artworks.....it is some racy, saucy show.....my pieces are quite tame in comparison to many....imagine thick pure beeswax candles in the phallic shape, extra large!....
it was very different for me to create something with an erotic theme for public consumption.....this year i finally managed to do it!!
does this mean i am growing as an artist?? ha ha!  have you ever created Erotic Art?

Valentine's Day and Erotica

we are at that time of year again!!....Valentine's Day and the Annual Erotica Show at Gabriola Artworks....you may recall that last year i had some difficulty creating pieces for either type of these shows....
i am happy to say that this year it is a whole new game! and i have some really fun pieces....everything i created is mixed media on paper and panel....and just 3 little glass hearts on one of them....i cannot show you the full images yet because the show has not opened....i will however share a few detail shots of one piece, with the little paper hearts that hang from the bottom....
this also fuels my desire to have more play time with pink paint!
other new paintings went to The Van Dop Gallery, over in the lower mainland.....for their annual Heart to Heart Show and their Mother's Day show.....and glass art going out to the West End Gallery, The White Dog Gallery and Vernon Art gallery....
i have big gratitude for these wonderful opportunities...
stay tuned for detailed images after Feb.14th.....

unfortunately i cannot seem to upload actual "in situ" pix at this time....but i will when i figure out why this is not working.....oohhhh.....this tech stuff really drives me crazy sometimes..... in the meantime here are a couple of studio shots of the bigger sculptural pieces from the show.....

stay tuned for more pix to come....

i am soooooo excited! these images are all close-up detail shots of a larger piece....i have been working and creating a body of work for my 10th annual solo show! coming up tomorrow!!!
it is hard to believe it has been 10 years! that is definitely the biggest commitment i have made to anything work related in my life...and i am totally loving what i do!
on the other hand, so much has happened in the last 10 years it is kinda hard to believe it has only been a decade.....
i have not always been a creative person and i am very grateful for this amazing creative life i have now......

Mess Making, Mark Making.....Playing...

i love playing with paint.....generally making a mess and smearing paint around.....and i am really loving yellow and pink....and just kinda messy, smudged looking paint and letters....it pleases me immensely.....

some of the artists that i love, who all know how to play, and all happen to be women, and i am happy to say that they are all friends of mine!!!.....check them out......you will likely see some similarities between us all and do also notice all the ways that we differ.....we all have our own voice shining through....all from a female perspective....

Variations on a Theme: Love

ok, so, you'd think i'd know by now that when you go into your creative world intent on creating some certain something that the muse is not necessarily there waiting for you.....but still i do this....big plans....ha ha....anyway, there is an amazing art show at Gabriola Artworks in Feb.....this annual show is called the "Erotica" show....and it is usually waaaay out there with great, uninhibited, even shocking!!! artworks in all mediums.....  i have NEVER put a piece of art in this show.....i've been asked, but just never felt that particular muse calling to me.....
at the same time i have been asked to be part of a show at The Van Dop Gallery ......this is a little different.....the show is called "Heart to Heart".....as you can see, i am more inspired by the heart right now.....this does not mean that erotica is not relevant in my life, just that when i went to create art this week it was love and heart that wanted expression....i do think there is a chance that some erotica will emerge from my studio, it's just taking it's time...
