Gabriola Arts Council "Chair Affair"

Our transformed glass chair on the front page of the paper.

Chair Affair, the Gabriola Arts Council fundraiser was a resounding success.

It was a sold out show, with a packed house. There were very talented performers, yummy food & drink.

The chairs were auctioned both silent and live. Our chair was one of the several that was auctioned live. The auctioneer was the witty and entertaining Bill Richardson, formerly of CBC radio fame.

Happily our chair fetched a good price for this very worthy cause.

I love to support the Gabriola Arts Council. This organization has done so much to promote art and create ongoing opportunities for island artists of all stripes.

YOU can join too,  for a very low yearly membership and feel good about helping to promote art and culture on our amazing island.

It's good for everybody!

B r e a t h e

yes..... b r e a t h e....it's funny how i have to remind myself to do this simple involuntary act.....of course i don't have to remind myself to b r e a t h e.....my body will take care of this function on it's own....however,  i do have to remind myself to b r e a t h e deeply and mindfully.....i find that when i am uptight i tend to take shallow breaths...which is why we are reminded by spiritual teachers to take several deep breaths before responding in difficult situations...

sometimes even when i am happily excited about creating i forget to breathe deeply too....and i have to leave the glass area to do this when i am working with powdered glass because you do not want to breathe deeply with those particles of silica in the air......head outside for fresh air....

Old Stuff with Recurring Themes...

I have posted a few older pix this time...not because i have nothing new....anyone who knows me knows that there is plenty of new art in my studio and heading out into the world!!! because i am what you might call a "prolific creator"....this is something i used to be kind of embarrassed about...yah, weird hey??....i think it's because i used to equate quantity with less quality, or the slower and more meticulous the process the better the work....however....i now know differently, it can and does work both ways....and i have absolutely excellent examples of practicing artists who are every bit as prolific, if not more so, than i am...and they are producing great work! and for me, the more i make, the better it is...whether it is glass art, mixed media, my journal/messy art book....

and, i have learned sooo much more about the creative process, and how different it is for everyone....but also, that there are many similar things about successful artists.....and also, how creativity goes in cycles, just like everything else in life....and sometimes you just need to be accepting of where you are in your own cycle....

and now, i am learning to embrace my obsessive, endlessly curious and kinda even "driven" creative nature....it's who i am, and that's cool....hey, it works for me.....

and i DO need to remind myself of these very things, in the above painting....as a daily practice.....
